We surpassed our target!

Posted Friday May 12, 2023

It was a warmish morning on the 12th of May as over 30 bosses and their supporters came to the Forsyth Barr stadium in preparation to be 'tossed' in the name of a good cause. These bosses had been fundraising between 12 weeks and 5 days for this opportunity and as the sun rose, Southern Youth Development was less than $2,000 from their target of $30,000.

Joining in the opportunity to face their fears was sẏd alumna, Hunter Tucker, whose goal of $250 was surpassed after only 2 weeks of fundraising. Hunter thoroughly enjoyed his abseil and looks forward to doing it again next year.

Another participant included Quake the dog, with owners, Liam McColl and Katie Hendry. Quake has been training with Fire and Emergency NZ and others to support dog rescues in emergencies, so an abseil in a sheltered stadium was a walk in the park for Quake!

Each participant received a medal for their support in fundraising. The medals have been kindly donated by John Swan Engraving over the last few years and are a great memento to keep. We are very grateful to John Swan for all their support with this.

Thank you to each participant and their communities for helping us to reach our goal. Your support of our youth programmes and young people in Clutha, Ōtepoti and Waitaki will make a world of difference.
