Gardens@syd

Gardens@syd is one of the Southern Youth Development's cornerstone experiences and has been running for a number of years in collaboration with the Dunedin City Council at the Dunedin Botanic Gardens.

Rakatahi with the ability to build the skills and desire to gain some work experience are given the opportunity to experience paid work by completing lawn mowing and hard surface maintenance at the Gardens.

Skill development, work experience and - most importantly - sense of self and place are the key outcomes for our participants, as well as completing critical work at one of Dunedin's most beautiful attractions.

While on the job, rakatahi are given important qualifications, knowledge and job development skills that are important for their next steps in employment. All rakatahi leave with high quality skills and a reference that stand them in good stead for their future.

We appreciate the support of the Dunedin City Council as a key partner with this initiative.
