Diversity Delivers in Clutha

Posted Thursday October 19, 2023

Diversity Delivers was an interactive workshop day presented by the Clutha Youth Council on the 24th of August this year. It was aimed at having employers of the district in the room to learn more about having a work environment inclusive of disabilities and of the LGBTQ+ community.

The key note speaker for the Day was Julie Woods, 'That Blind Woman'. She spoke to the room on her experiences navigating the world as a blind person and how it's changed her life. Other speakers included Nancy Antill, Carolyn Greer, and Leeanne Turora all of which live and work with a disability or are a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

Participants had the opportunity to do activities which were made tricky for them, such as painting any way without using your hands, peeling potatoes with just one hand and putting together a puzzle of the rainbow flag.

The day aimed to create a safe environment to ask questions where people could ask questions around how to include people and how to be sensitive towards others situations.
