Change at the top
Or, more accurately, the blue and green of Otago Polytechnic. Andy will be taking up the position of Manager Secondary Tertiary in early 2017, and will finish at the Trust on 23 December.
Its been my absolute privilege to work at the Malcam Charitable Trust, alongside talented and motivated staff, and with young people who constantly challenge, but always reward. The Dunedin community is pretty special, and I have really enjoyed collaborating with a wide range of organisations interested in creating opportunities for young people. I'm looking forward to continuing that work into my new role, managing the secondary tertiary transition space at Otago Polytechnic.
Andy has been CE since mid 2012. Prior to that he worked as a consultant to the Trust, and has also served as a Trustee on the Malcam Charitable Trust Board.
The Trust is delighted to announce Desiree Williams as its new CE. Desiree brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to the Trust, with her 10 years experience at Ngai Tahu Maori Law Centre and prior to that working in education. She is also well versed in the community sector, holding a number of governance and volunteer roles in a range of organisations, including Te Hou Ora, Dunedin City Council and Dunedin Mediation Services.
With experience in working with the hardest to reach communities in my time with Community Law, I relish the opportunity to work with the incredible and dedicated trustees and staff of the Malcam Trust, and excited to witness the success of youth that results. As a former difficult youth, I truly believe that we should provide every opportunity for youth to find their way in adult life. Whilst I am privileged to be taking up the challenge as CEO, Andy leaves big shoes to fill - I will work hard to further the opportunities and support offered by the Malcam Trust throughout Otago. Youth are our future!
Malcam Charitable Trust Chair Jan Hudson is excited at the appointment or Desiree to the CE role, and the opportunity change will bring.
The Trust has always been a flexible and innovative provider to the needs of young people in Dunedin. Desiree will help us to build on our suite of experiences for young people, and will further evolve our organisation, so that we continue to provide this support.
