FarmHand recruiting for 2017

Posted Thursday November 3, 2016

Sign up now for the 2017 intake. We will run from 13th February until 9th June. The 17-week immersion into outdoors work and training will give young people you skills and opportunities to shape your future pathway whilst connecting with the land and people of Dunedin. Experiences are varied according to the season.  We are excited to share the development of Kowhai Grove - Experiental Learning Hub - with each intake where we teach about growing food, small-scale farming and enterprise. Previous students report a great sense of connection to the Grove as well as appreciation of connections within the community.

'Thanks for letting us be part of the development of the site and actually have a say in it. It made us feel a sense of ownership'

Every crew spends a part of their time with us volunteering in the community, particularly supporting conservation and local food project.

'It's been amazing meeting all these new people learning about all the projects and making myself known in the community'

FarmHand is a collaboration between Otago Polytechnic  and Malcam Charitable Trust.  As a student at Polytech you will experience a variety of workshops including fencing, engineering, animal care, horticulture, and much more. And at the same time, flash out your CV and improve your writing and numeracy skills.

If you love the outdoors, get stuck in the mud, like to tinker and learn more about yourself and growing your own food, apply now. For more information visit www.farmhand.org.nz,  Facebook, email jethro@malcam.org.nz or give us a call on 03 477 4175.

[Note: the second intake in 2017 will run from 24th July to 17th November]

We are looking forward to meeting you and finding out about your passions and aspirations!!!
