Former Refugees Receive Gift of Bicycles

Posted Tuesday July 11, 2023

The Bikes@syd programme has young people recycling and learning bicycle maintenance skills all while contributing to a more sustainable and circular economy. Newly arrived former refugees were one of the priority communities that we work with as they were unlikely to have transport options of their own before arriving in Dunedin.

This partnership goes back to 2018, but we have now formalised it to make it easier for former refugees to receive bicycles not long after they arrive. Transportation is incredibly important for independance and learning more about the community they are living in, so our young people are an important part in welcoming former refugees to our community.
