We're delighted to announce two key appointments who joined us in June:

Kelly Gay has stepped into the role of our new CEO. We're incredibly excited to have Kelly lead Southern Youth Development into its next chapter. Kelly Gay is a seasoned General Manager with a knack for strategy and leadership in the not-for-profit world. With over 17 years in senior roles, he's all about tackling interesting problems and driving positive change. Kelly's experience includes significant work with youth-focused organizations, like the Cromwell Youth Trust and the YMCA, showing his commitment to youth development. He's a pragmatic leader who believes in empowering teams and building strong partnerships to get things done.

Stacey Te Pōhue Rose has joined us as the Youth Work Project Lead. Stacey Te Pōhue Rose, who joined syd in June 2025, is all about empowering young people. With a decade in the Youth Sector, he's a pro at helping young Māori, Pasifika, and at-risk rangatahi build their leadership skills and find their voice.

  • Beyond his impressive governance background, Stacey is also a qualified barber – a skill he uses to connect with and uplift young people. He's deeply passionate about Te Ao Māori, weaving its principles into his daily life and youth work.
